Every hard drive or SSD has a unique hexadecimal signature.

That signature is used by Windows and various application programs to limit or detect software piracy.

To view the signature, simply open diskpart from the command line.

UniqueID disk is the command to display the hex ID of the disk selected.

Microsoft Windows will cause a signature collision if their are (2) or more drives with identical signatures in the same system.

If you need to change the signature use this command below.

When cloning a drive with Acronis with custom software on the source drive with drive signature used in the authentication of that software, it is advisable to use this method to prevent piracy notices during any SSD/HDD upgrade
